The Story The Mako city of Midgar that was once blooming at its peak with prosperity is now in ruins but, people were already set in rebuilding the cities. However, a mysterious disease known as "Geostigma" was causing much pain. Because of this incurable disease, those who had just got back some hope was faced with another threat. Cloud now runs a delivery service while living a quiet live and looking after orphans. Ever since he lost precious friends in the last great battle, his heart remains shut as he blames himself. One day, Cloud receives a call from a client who says he had a job for him. The job was to protect the client from a man named Kadaj and the others that accompanied him. Soon, the evil from the young ferocious Kadaj and his followers gets a hold of the orphans that Cloud lived with. Just what is their target? The unavoidable battle with the beings that have powers that surpass humans, Kadaj and his followers, begins.. Product Info Besides your normal DVD, a UMD version of this movie is available for viewing on a PSP. Both the DVD and UMD version comes with one disc and costs the same at a price of 4800 Yen. The Japanese DVD comes with Japanese audio and subtitles only. The DVD version comes with two covers. One is the first press edition which has a picture of Cloud on his bike while the other copies have a picture of Cloud and Sephiroth beside each other. The UMD version contains the movie as well as a selection of soundtracks.
If that isn't enough, there is also a goodies pack for fans known as Advent Pieces Limited Edition. Only 77,777 copies have been produced in Japan (the figure follows the lucky 7s feature from the original game). Although it comes at a hefty asking price of 29,500 Yen (more than 6 times the price of the normal DVD), it does come with a lot of goodies for the collector and fan alike and sold just as well as the standalone normal DVD. Amongst the goodies is a short OVA Anime which revolves around the characters Cloud, Zack, Tifa and Sephiroth during the events that took place in Nibelheim.
The Western version of the movie was released a few months later on May 24th 2006, both on DVD and UMD. Luckily for Western viewers, the DVD release came as a special two disc version which contains content that were only available on the bonus DVD that was part of the expensive limited edition package in Japan. These extra content are Distance (the making of), the Venice Film Festival Edition of the movie, trailers and deleted scenes. Although the movie was only intended as a DVD release, the movie premiered in early April 2006 on the big screen in Los Angeles. All the US voice actors and actresses were gathered together along with the Japanese directors, Nomura and Nozue. Everyone who attended got goodie bags containing the FFVII:AC OST and a poster. Ten prizes consisting of a PSP, PSP accessories, an FFVII:AC calendar and an autographed copy of the FFVII:AC Japanese DVD was also given to those fortunate enough to sit on a seat with a star stuck on the bottom. The movie was also premiered later towards the end of the month as part of the Anime All Nighter in London.
